Gertrude Ederle got training at the Women’s Swimming Association (WSA), which produced such reputed swimmers as Ethelda Bleibtrey, Helen Wainwright, Charlotte Boyle, Aileen Riggin, and Esther Williams. During the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris, Ederle won the first gold medal in the 4*100 meter relay. She set a new world record of 4:58.8 at the event finals.
