Shamsia’s journey as an abstract artist kick-started with the lockdown during COVID, last summer. “Glass bottles were lying around and I was alone at home. I painted a lot of bottles and posted a couple of pictures on Instagram. Prathima ma’am, Professor at MBAESG India saw them and sent a few pictures to our Dean, Dr. Nirmaalya B Biswas. He encouraged me to pursue this further and I took his words quite seriously”, says Shamsia.
Since then there has been no turning back for the multi-talented 29-year-old. She etched herself a spot in the prestigious World Book of Records for creating the largest Montier De Structure of size 120” * 120” with a total area of 14,400 inches. “It’s either make a record or break one! I was determined to create something afresh and that’s how I embarked on creating this structure with marble dust. More than just the visual appeal, we must also keep in mind its measurable size, during the planning phase’’, informs Shamsia.

The Bangalore-based abstract artist is also an alumnus of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women, a global initiative that fosters economic growth by providing women entrepreneurs with a business and management education, mentoring, and networking.
Shamsia is also a proud member of the Guild UK, one of the oldest organizations for artists, craftspeople, and architects working at the highest levels of excellence in their professions.
“Very few Indians appreciate art. When I tell people that I’m an artist, sometimes I have faced questions like, what do you do for a living then,” Shamsia quips. She went on to say, “I had to create a name for myself in the art space as I meet many renowned artists during exhibitions. I researched a lot about the various organizations that existed for artists. That’s how I came across Guild UK”.

The self-made artist has also volunteered with the United Nations during her Final Year at MBAESG India. As a part of her responsibility, she had to run campaigns on Women’s Day Generation Equality. She aced it well and Shamsia continues her social activities by volunteering to find ICU beds for COVID patients in Bangalore!
“I miss my friends and teachers at MBAESG. They always had my back and encouraged me to do more in life. I ring my professors whenever I hit a roadblock with anything. I reach out to them even now and they are always ready to guide me,” says the 2020 MBAESG graduate.
