Introduction

The National Gallery of Modern Art, Bengaluru was set up in the premises of the Manikyavelu Mansion at 49, Palace Road, Bangalore and opened to the public on February 18, 2009. Spread over an area of 3.5 acres, the glorious heritage building was transformed from a residence into an Art Gallery, with a display space of 1551 square metres to which a new gallery block, with a display space of 1260 square metres, was added. The architecture of the additional block was designed in a way that it merges with the style and ambience of the Manikyavelu Mansion, at the same time fulfilling the requirements of a modern museum.

The National Gallery of Modern Art houses some of India’s richest heritage within its palatial walls. The visit helped our MBA in Luxury Management students in gaining an in-depth understanding of Indian art and artists such as Rabindranath Tagore, Jamini Roy, and Abanindranath Tagore. It also helped them realize India’s progress in the Arts through the ages.
